Disability Equality and Diversity Training from ELC
ELC is committed to helping our partners
achieve service excellence through embracing disability equality and diversity in the work place. We provide bespoke training, consultancy and auxiliary services which ensure that you and your employees understand and embrace the value of equality and diversity
and are able to implement effective strategies to ensure best practice and
achieve excellence in service provision. Ultimately this means that by
understanding and responding to diversity and treating your staff fairly your business can avoid litigation and achieve excellence at all levels. It stands to reason that a business with a diverse workforce will attract and retain a wider customer base, be able to identify new niche markets and provide a service which meets individual needs.
What is Diversity?
Whilst there is no single definition of diversity it is commonly
accepted as recognising and valuing the differences between individuals and the contributions they make and treating them fairly and with respect.
Unlike the traditional approach to Equal Opportunities which focus on legal
compliance through equal treatment, diversity takes on a 'difference' approach
and reflects initiatives that are internally driven and proactive in bringing
about organisational change.
Why promote disability equality?
The UK Government estimates that there are approximately 11
million disabled people in Britain. This means that one in five people visiting your service as a consumer could be a disabled person.
Further, there are 6.8 million disabled people of a working age and someone is
more likely to acquire an impairment whilst during their working career.
Of the 3.4 million disabled people of a working age who are out of work, 1.2
million are actively look for a job.
Disabled people spend upwards of £80 billion annually and that's
not taking in to account the spending power of their family and friends.
Implementing disability equality in to your work and service
provision will help you gain new customers, retain existing ones and be legally
compliant. Surveys
conducted by DuPont over 35 years show that consistently show that their
disabled employees equal or exceed their non-disabled co-workers in terms of job
performance, attendance and safety commitment.
What can understanding diversity do for your business or service?
- Increase market share
- Develop organisation ethics and values
- Enhance people-management practices and maximise employee potential
- Reflect changes in society and personal expectations
- Comply with legislation
- Enhance competitiveness
The implication of all this is that employers and their staff need to become
aware of and examine these issues. They need to ensure that organisational
culture and its selection and employment procedures never waste talent. To
this end we will work with you to discover the value of promoting disability equality and diversity amongst your work force and customers; helping you to mainstream equalities across the organisation and increase your customer base, employ motivated and committed staff leading to increased profitability and forward thinking business practice.
We specialise in working with partners in the voluntary, statutory, public and private sector to bring about long term sustainable change for the benefit of all people. We are passionate about our work so committed to achieving excellence in all that we do.
